Ethics & Organizational Leadership
The programme is designed to develop educated citizens with a sense of moral obligation based on their own personal code of Ethics who are competent researchers capable of critical analysis of the forces that shape their world. Through their studies the learners will understand that ethics positively impacts leadership both at the theoretical and practical levels of decision making and human relations. This competency will help them to create organizations which inspire confidence and trust among internal and external stakeholders and investors.
The programme is designed to educate and prepare competent and ethical leaders of socially responsible organizations that can maintain high ethical standards through transparent and rigorous decision making processes.
The Masters of Arts in Ethics and Organizational Leadership is a course-work and a research thesis-based programme. The programme will be delivered within a period of two academic years comprising of six trimesters. The mode of delivery will be face to face learning comprising of lectures, tutorials, class presentations, case studies, field trips and guest speakers.
Admission Requirements for the proposed Programme
An applicant must satisfy the following minimum requirements for admission to MA in Ethics and Organizational Leadership programme:
- Be a holder of a Bachelor of Ethics and Organizational Leadership, Upper Second Class honors; or
- Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with a minimum of upper second-class honors or its equivalent from a recognized university; and
- Show evidence of competence to do rigorous research work.
1.3.2. Other Admission Requirements
English Language Proficiency
Applicants from non-English speaking countries must present evidence of proficiency in written and spoken English. IELTS: The MA programme requires an overall band score of a 7.0 or higher on the IELTS. Or TOEFL: The minimum sub-scores for each element of the TOEFL iBT are Speaking: 22; Reading: 20; Listening: 15; and Writing: 20. Or any other internationally recognized examinations. The test score should not be older than two years. If there is no evidence of proficiency, the applicant will be required to sit for an English Proficiency Exam (EPE). If the applicant does not pass the exam, he/she will be required to enroll in special English classes as appropriate in order to improve his/her efficiency and to facilitate effective matriculation through the MA programme.
NB: The Post Graduate studies Admission Board shall have overall authority to admit or decline to admit a candidate for the degree.
Candidates could be allowed to get exemptions or transfer credit hours from similar post graduate programmes. In all cases of exemptions, the following regulations shall apply:
(i) Only credits from accredited universities and programmes will be considered for exemption
(ii) When only an exemption is granted, the learner is required to take another course in place of the exempted course.
In the case or credit transfer the following regulations apply:
- The transferred credits must be for courses not older than five years from the time the learner completed these courses.
- The minimum grade for credit transfer is a B average (Second class honors, upper division) or its equivalent.
- The maximum transferred credit shall not exceed 49% of the core course units, excluding research courses and thesis. The learner must complete at least 51% of the core courses at Tangaza University College.
- When credits are transferred, the learner is allowed to do fewer courses in the programme. In all cases, the learner must write a thesis supervised by Tangaza University College.
Learners transferring from a non-academic, executive programme or from a different field of study and wishing to pursue an academic postgraduate programme (Master’s, Licentiate, PhD) will be required to do foundation/bridging courses in the area of study. The foundation course will include:
- A minimum of 5 bridging/basic/introductory courses,
OR
- A minimum of one full semester/trimester of introductory/basic courses in the area of study,
AND/OR
A long essay or thesis with a focus in the area of study.
All required courses must have been completed and credits awarded prior to the awarding of the Master of Arts in Ethics and Organizational Leadership degree. Ultimately, it is each learner’s responsibility to ensure that he or she has fulfilled all requirements before graduation. The Master of Arts in Ethics and Organizational Leadership is awarded with a minimum of 50 credits.
- To satisfy the requirements for Master of Arts in Ethics and Organizational Leadership, a learner shall enroll in the course work for three semesters.
- The Candidate shall be required to take 11 core courses, 3 common courses an elective and thesis.
- For the award of the degree, a candidate must have:
- Attended 45 contact hours in each course;
- Done course work and examinations in each course;
- Obtained 50 credits;
Defended and passed the thesis.

A Flexible MA Programme
The Tangaza University College MA Social Transformation programme is flexible and can be undertaken in two ways:
Regular Student Programme:
– For students intending to pursue the course full time
– Classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 5.30 pm and 8.30pm
Professional Student Programme: (targeted towards the working class)
– For students available only on a part-time basis
– Classes only on Friday and Saturday, 8:30 a.m to 5:00 p.m
